Eyeglass Lens Options
Eyeglass lenses can do more than simply "help you see better". They can also
protect your vision and your eyes. Knowing your specific needs is very
important to selecting the proper lens options
which will help you see better and protect your eyes. There are
many variables and options to eyeglass lenses that must be considered depending on your
requirements. You may need to not only see close, far and intermediate but
also want to eliminate reflections. How you use your eyes is paramount to
knowing what lens options will help you see better. A relaxed eye that is
not straining to see, will give you the best vision! We will discus your
lifestyle and together we will find the perfect lens options for you.
Eyeglass Lens Options
A few of the lens options that are available for you, are:
- Single Vision Lenses
- Progressive Lenses
- Anti-Reflective Coatings
- Computer Eyeglasses Lenses
- Polarized Lenses
Single Vision Lenses
Single vision lenses, as the name implies, do one singular function. They
whole field of vision in your lens to set to target the object(s) of what
you are looking at, at certain, or all distances. Single vision lenses can be for
close, intermediate, far vision or all inclusive distances. Single vision lenses
can assist your vision with eye conditions such as Myopia (nearsightedness), Hyperopia (farsightedness), and Astigmatism.
Progressive Lenses
Progressive lenses are multi-focal lenses. Even though you cannot see any
line on the lens, progressive lenses are design to help you see as clear as
you can at multiple distances. They are designed to help you see clearer
wearing eyeglasses
without having to change eyeglasses. The lower part of the lens is for near
vision, the middle part of the lens is for intermediate vision, (such as a
computer screen) and the higher part of the lens is to help you see distance.
Anti-Reflective Coatings
The true measure of AR clarity is luminous reflectance: the lower the reflectance, the greater the clarity.
An anti-reflective coating will ease the strain of your vision by lowering and in
some cases eliminating reflective light. An ant-reflective coating improves
night vision and reduces glare and halos of light which results in improved
visual clarity. They also are resistant to dirt and fingerprints. This is
also extremely beneficial when using technological devices such as
televisions, computers, laptops, tablets, cellphones and artificial light.
Also cosmetically, your appearance improves. When people look at you, they
do not see reflections of light in your lenses and they have a clearer view,
of you.
Computer Eyeglasses
Have you ever added up the time you spend in front of your computer, tablet, smart phone, or other electronic device? Looking at screens is a normal part of our lives in the 21st century. Even if you never had any eye problems before, you may have computer vision syndrome symptoms after a brief amount of screen time and can worsen and cause other vision problems.
If you already suffer from astigmatism, myopia, presbyopia, aging eyes, and/or diabetic eye problems, your computer vision symptoms may worsen. This can even be the case if you already wear prescription eyeglasses or contacts.
Many regular contact lenses, eyeglasses and sunglasses are not designed to deflect the problems caused by computer screens. More computer friendly lenses are available. For people with otherwise normal eyes and vision, a set of specially-designed glasses used during the time you spend on a computer or screen can be very helpful.
Polarized Lenses
Polarized lenses are the ONLY sun lenses that reduce glare, improve vision
and maintain healthy eyes Once considered a specialty lens that was geared
for activities such as fishing, boating, and other water and snow sports,
polarized lenses are now the preferred choice by patients as well as by the
ophthalmic professional as the leading lens for sunglasses. Polarized lenses
are made from a special polarizing film that is applied in the factory on
the front surface of the lens. This film allows light rays to be filtered,
consequently improving the vision in strong light conditions. Polarized
lenses will protect you from UV rays, glare and intense light. In
combination with an anti-reflective coating, polarized lenses are ideal for
fishing and driving, but there are occupations that a polarized lens would
not be feasible, like an airplane pilot because polarization can greatly
reduce or even eliminate the visibility of aviation instruments that incorporate anti-glare filters.
